Sarai Amanat Khan

Sarai Amanat Khan is situated at a distance of about 46 km from Amritsar on the Attari-Tarn Taran road. To reach here, one needs to drive towards Chabal Kalan from Amritsar and drive to right from there towards Attari. Sarai Amanat Khan is located on this road. Sarai Amanat Khan is a popular tourist destination in Punjab and is reminiscent of the Mughal rule in India.

Sarai Amanat Khan was a resting place for tourists and travelers during the Mughal era. The gateway of this historic inn has been decorated with glazed tiles. It was constructed by Amanat Khan, who was the in-charge of calligraphy of the Taj Mahal.

The major attractions at Sarai Amanat Khan are its two imposing gates, named after historic cities of Lahore and Delhi. These gates are known as Delhi Darwaza and Lahori Darwaza. There is quite a lot of space in Sarai Amanat Khan, where even bullock carts and horses can be kept. This place also houses a historic mosque which is led to by an arched gateway.

Due to lack of proper maintenance and neglect by administration over the years this historic place has been reduced to a pile of rubble. A portion of Sarai Amanat Khan has got damaged and locals have encroached upon it. They have used its material for their own use and set up their homes and commercial establishments in its premises.
